Award of Excellence at the 36th IALD International Lighting Design Awards
The Beijie Grain Warehouse Exhibition Hall and Studio project in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, has won the Excellence Award at the 36th International Lighting Design Awards (IALD International Lighting Design Awards). The architectural design of this project is by LU Studio (Lu Xiang, the presiding architect), and the lighting design is by Zhang Xin's studio at the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, together with LU Studio.
The spotlights are especially customized for the internal art gallery of the factory, based on WAC's existing Paloma pro track spotlights, with the addition of a system that can be lifted and stowed and hovered in any position, which has been granted a utility model patent. This system ensures the flexibility of artwork display lighting in each factory building, while at the same time presenting the beauty of the original roof structure and material texture. The roof structure of each exhibition hall is different, and the track spotlight system takes into account the reasonable angle of illumination of the artwork, the avoidance of spatial line of sight, and the convenience of dimming and maintenance.
In the special exhibition hall, the track spotlights are arranged in such a way that the exhibition lighting does not visually interfere with the internal structure, and can be lifted and stowed and hovered in any attitude to realize the lighting close-up of low-level exhibits and avoid glare and shadow. In the interior of the exhibition hall transformed from an old factory building, the linear light fixtures hidden in the two walls illuminate the roof, presenting the original roof structure with soft indirect light.
